Who will you be working with?
You will be part of a cross‑functional manufacturing support organization, working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Planning, Procurement, Quality, and Logistics teams. This group partners daily with shop‑floor operations and design teams to ensure material readiness, configuration accuracy, and efficient material flow across locomotive manufacturing programs. The team plays a critical role in bridging product design and execution, supporting both current production and new product introductions.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations group, you will be responsible for designing and sustaining material presentation, kitting, and locomotive configuration management solutions that enable safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production. You will support shop‑floor operations by ensuring materials are delivered in the right quantity, sequence, and timing, while maintaining accurate Bills of Material (BOM) and configuration alignment. The role leads continuous improvement initiatives, supports new product introductions and engineering changes, and partners with stakeholders to reduce material shortages, improve flow, and drive operational excellence. You will regularly report progress, risks, and KPIs to manufacturing and supply chain leadership.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 4–6 years of experience in materials management, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or supply chain roles
- Hands-on experience with BOM management, locomotive or complex product configurations, and material planning
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change management
- Exposure to warehouse layout design, kitting, and shop‑floor material delivery processes
- Strong understanding of BOM structures, configuration control, and material flow
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing tools (5S, standard work, visual management)
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑driven decision‑making skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder management across cross‑functional teams
- Ability to lead projects, pilots, and phased rollouts in a manufacturing environment
What will your typical day look like?
- Lead and support material presentation and kitting initiatives to improve shop‑floor efficiency
- Define and standardize kitting methods based on BOMs, routings, and work instructions
- Analyze warehouse layouts and material staging areas to identify opportunities to reduce travel, handling, and non‑value‑added activities
- Design and implement optimized material flow from receiving through storage, kitting, and line‑side delivery
- Establish and maintain standard processes for shop‑floor distribution, milk‑runs, and replenishment
- Manage locomotive configurations and BOMs, ensuring alignment between engineering, manufacturing, and procurement
- Support NPI readiness, material validation, engineering changes (ECNs), and production cut‑in plans
- Resolve material availability issues impacting production schedules and takt times
- Develop and maintain SOPs, standards, and visual management tools for material handling and configuration management
- Track and report KPIs related to BOM accuracy, kitting performance, material readiness, and production disruptions
