Company Job Title:

Sr. Platform Engineering Architect

Location: Bengaluru, KA

Summary:

In this role, you will play a key leader in our Wabtec One Platform Engineering ecosystem by providing technical leadership and hands‑on expertise across Platform Engineering practices including DevOps principles, Kubernetes, Docker, SDLC, CI/CD, cloud platforms, microservice architecture, monitoring, and observability. You will help define and implement best practices that guide product teams, establishing patterns and standards that elevate our overall Platform Engineering maturity. Your contributions will directly influence the Platform Engineering strategy for Wabtec and accelerate the delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure solutions across the business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide architectural guidance and leadership to enhance tooling for continuous build, automated testing, and release management.
  • Architect, design, and oversee implementation of Kubernetes‑based workloads at scale.
  • Apply deep knowledge of cloud tooling and cloud‑native best practices (AWS preferred) to guide solution decisions.
  • Design technology solutions that are platform‑agnostic, reusable, and scalable to enterprise‑wide adoption across multiple application teams.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively at scale and present architectural recommendations to diverse technical audiences.
  • Make strategic technology decisions at the product and platform level and evaluate their enterprise‑wide impact.
  • Analyze and optimize build processes and pipelines through architectural improvements.
  • Champion automation initiatives to reduce operational toil and enhance engineering efficiency.
  • Lead the implementation and governance of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment principles.
  • Provide architectural oversight in quality engineering, test planning, and testing methodology for software delivery.
  • Apply expert knowledge of SDLC and agile methodologies to ensure consistent and predictable delivery outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise documentation supporting build processes and environment configurations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AI workflows and the architectural considerations required to support AI‑driven and agentic systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Participate in hiring and recruitment efforts, including interviews for employees in the Wabtec One Platform Engineering department.
  • Provide technical leadership on best practice implementation and ensuring consistency in DevOps methodology.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Professional Technical Experience: 7+ Years
  • Linux Experience: 6+ Years
  • CI/CD Experience: 4+ Years
  • Docker Experience: 5+ Years
  • Kubernetes Experience: 5+ Years
  • Python, Shell, or Bash Scripting Experience: 5+ Years

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience designing, creating, and maintaining automated build and configuration management tooling (Ansible, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform, or GitLab preferred).
  • Deep expertise in the full container lifecycle—from Dockerfile best practices to Kubernetes execution models.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver architectural guidance and educate internal teams on emerging technologies.
  • Ability to propose strategic CI/CD improvements based on research, industry trends, and best‑practice synthesis.
  • Demonstrates strong judgment in evaluating modern tools and integrating them into product teams based on business value.
  • Understands TCO and value drivers associated with platform and tooling decisions, ensuring cost‑efficient architecture.
  • Influences through collaboration and builds organizational alignment for new or evolving processes.
  • Leverages institutional knowledge to prevent rework and drive consistent architectural outcomes.
  • Continuously evaluates successes and failures to inform future architectural decisions and improve performance.
  • Capable of mentoring and guiding others in critical thinking and architectural decision‑making.
  • Demonstrates ongoing commitment to deepening technical expertise and adopting emerging technologies.
  • Proactively engages with cross‑functional teams to resolve complex issues and design scalable, standards‑based solutions.
  • Actively learns new methodologies and tools to anticipate and mitigate delivery challenges across product teams.
