Role Summary/Purpose
The job has the responsibility for leading designing Locomotive Vehicle Control subsystem that meet the customer requirements, cost & reliability expectations. It includes defining system level requirements, preparing test plans & performing system validation, lead and participate in Design reviews and make technical decisions.
Lead and drive culture of quality and technological refinement to existing designs.
Essential Responsibilities
Design and develop Vehicle Control for Locomotives.
Lead / Participate in product conceptual designs and concept trade off analysis.
Define sub-system design requirements and interfaces for various control systems for the locomotive including On-board monitoring , diagnostics applications, AESS, Master Controller and Control Integration, Human Machine Interface(HMI) for locomotive, suitable for application in both English and non-English speaking environments
Interact with locomotive system, sub-systems, component teams to define and document traction system requirements and interfaces.
Develop Model as per design requirement and carryout desktop simulations to verify the design.
Develop Validation plans and perform system validation.
Provide designs that are robust, that meet cost and reliability targets.
Conduct Simulator testing and later participate in locomotive testing to validate controls as required.
Lead Design reviews; make presentation and status reports to Senior Management.
Must be willing to work on high horsepower and high voltage equipments.
Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
Work with cross-functional & global teams to meet project objectives
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Control system Engineering.
8-15 years’ experience in Engineering in similar/relevant field.
Hands on experience with the design and development of control algorithms in a relevant field.
Experience on including Human Machine Interface (HMI), On-board monitoring , diagnostics applications, AESS, Master Controller and Control Integration
Good working knowledge on usage of MATLAB, Simulink/Stateflow or similar tools.
Proven analytical, interpersonal, communication, organization, planning and leadership skills.
Process focus and continuous improvement orientation.
Desired Characteristics
8-15 years' experience working as Vehicle Control engineer in Locomotive/Automotive/Defense or similar domains
Have a strong understanding of the Control system and real time system architecture designs.
The ability to break down problems and estimate time for development tasks
Being innovative, need to find new ways to improve the designs and sometimes challenge current ways of working
Strong problem solving, business and analytical abilities
Experience in working in cross-functional environment.
Having working level knowledge of locomotive control systems.
Working knowledge of statistical analysis, or Six Sigma Greenbelt certified preferred.
Experience with requirements management tools
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
