Interns working together on a project

A Day in the Life of a Wabtec Intern

A Day in the Life of a Wabtec Intern

Internships at Wabtec aren't just about gaining experience; they're about getting involved, making connections and having a little fun along the way. Whether you're in engineering, manufacturing, IT, finance, or something else entirely, your day is packed with learning, collaboration and a few surprises.

Here's what a typical day might look like (with plenty of room for variety).

Morning: Kickoff & Coffee

Most interns begin their day with a quick check-in, often with their manager, mentor, or project team. You might be heading into a plant or grabbing a desk in one of our offices. Mornings are all about getting grounded: reviewing tasks, asking questions and diving into your project work.

And yes, coffee and energy drinks are usually involved. Whether it's a solo moment or a quick chat with coworkers, mornings set the tone.

Midday: Lunch & Learning

Lunch isn't just a break, it's a chance to connect. Interns often grab lunch together, join team outings, or attend "Lunch & Learn" sessions with Wabtec leaders. These casual events cover everything from career tips to industry trends and they're a great way to meet people across departments.

Depending on your location, you might even find yourself at a local food truck, a team picnic, or a mini golf outing. (Yes, really. We like to mix it up.)

Afternoon: Projects & Progress

Afternoons are for making things happen. Interns work on real projects that make a real impact, whether it's analyzing data, improving a process, supporting a product launch, working directly with our customers or shadowing technicians on the shop floor. You'll collaborate with teammates, ask questions and get feedback that helps you grow.

And if you're in a hands-on role, this might be when you suit up in PPE and dive into the action. Manufacturing and trades interns learn by doing, with guidance from experienced professionals who love sharing their knowledge.

Evening: Wrap-Up & Fun

Before the day ends, you'll likely check in with your team, share updates, or prep for tomorrow. But the fun doesn't stop there. Interns often participate in after-hours events, such as baseball games, trivia nights, volunteer outings, or casual gatherings with coworkers.

These moments are where friendships form, networks grow and memories are made. At Wabtec, we believe that work should be meaningful and enjoyable.

A Few Things to Know

  • You'll be supported. From mentors to managers, people are here to help you succeed.
  • You'll be challenged. Expect to stretch your skills and try new things.
  • You'll be included. Your ideas matter and your voice is welcome.
  • You'll have fun. Seriously. We make space for connection, celebration and a little friendly competition.

Interning at Wabtec is more than just a line on your resume; it's a chance to explore your potential, build real-world skills and be part of a team that drives innovation and impact.
