Job Description

Unifin International is a business unit within Wabtec Corporation’s Components division.  Originally founded in the 1920’s, Unifin International is an electric equipment cooling company, focused on the power generation and transmission markets.  Our primary business is within North America, but it reaches worldwide from legacy fossil fuel and nuclear plants, to growing renewable energy power grids.

 

How will you make a difference?

The Applications Specialist position is a technical design and support role for Unifin International’s sales activities for custom designed heat exchangers.  In this role you would be primarily preparing the preliminary design and cost estimates for product proposal documents, for follow up by our sales team.  When a contract is secured by our sales team, you would communicate the contract’s requirements to Unifin’s design and production teams to allow completion of the detail design and product fabrication.  You would also provide technical support to our customers, our sales team, and our other multi-department teams as needed to ensure we meet our goal of providing quality product on time to our customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering technician diploma, from an accredited college, minimum.
  • Related work experience will be considered.

  • Able to communicate technical concepts both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements for non-technical audiences.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to work well independently and in a group.
  • Familiarity with heat exchangers and heat transfer applications.
  • Enjoys technical challenges and/or puzzles.
  • Possess a strong ethical core with a professional attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Teams or similar platforms.

 

What will your typical day look like?

  • Prepare technical proposals for custom designed heat exchangers and associated components, which includes review of customer specifications, preliminary sizing of the heat exchanger, cost estimation for the heat exchanger and additional components, securing internal approvals as needed, and preparation of the proposal document package.
  • When orders are received, complete order entry process which includes preparing Order Entry Package, securing internal approvals as needed, loading order details into Unifin’s PLM system (TeamCenter), and communicate order details to all Unifin International departments.
  • Provide technical support to Unifin International sales team and/or customers directly.
  • Act as a point of contact and resource for internal Unifin International departments for contract details and technical requirements.
  • Support any Corrective Actions or quality related items for contracts.
  • Communicate and manage any customer changes to orders still in process before shipment.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada is required.
  • Possess a valid passport, or be able to secure a valid passport, for travel to the United States or Europe, should a business need arise.

Our job titles may span more than one career level.  The salary rate for this role is currently $63,000 to $83,500.  The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as:  training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
