Job Description

Who will you be working with?

Wabtec’s Digital Onboard Solutions Engineering (DOSE) is a leading supplier of technology-based products and services for the rail and transit industries. Our best-in-class and proven Electronics Engineering team with in-depth knowledge of hardware, firmware, validation, and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design. You will also have opportunities to work with other Engineering teams, supply chain, and manufacturing.

How will you make a difference?

As the PCB Electronic Hardware Engineer, you will design Complex, Multilayer PCBs, collaborating closely with Electrical, Mechanical, PCB vendor and Manufacturing teams to deliver robust, reliable, and manufacturable products. You will design PCB from start to finish, generating Gerbers files for manufacturing and provide support throughout the design and manufacturing process.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Minimum 8 years of experience laying out dense, high-speed, RF, digital and analog boards for Transportation and other industries.
  • BS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven track record for delivering high-quality designs.
  • IPC certification will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in Gerbtool, Cam350 and valor NPI.
  • Knowledge in Oracle and AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Detail oriented and have a good understanding of how to produce zero-defect layouts.
  • Understand the fundamentals of high-speed circuit board design, component placement for digital, analog, RF, power, power isolation, PoE and routing.
  • Knowledge of rules setting up in constraint manager.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB & PCBA manufacturing processes, industry, and quality
  • standards (including IPC), Signal Integrity, power distribution, EMC, and EMI layout requirements.
  • Basic understanding of PCB assembly process and factors driving reliability.
  • PCBA debugging skill and familiarity with electron-mechanical assembly and documentation preparation processes are a plus.
  • Interact well with vendor, customers, and other employees.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills.

What will your typical day look like?

  • PCB layout of Complex, Rigid, Rigid Flex, Flex, Multi-layer, HDI, High speed PCBs using Cadence Allegro, Altium, and PADs.
  • Select materials, board stack-ups, component placement, RF, Power, Routing, Length matching, and silkscreen arrangement.
  • Implement controlled impedance routing for USB, HDMI, PCIe, DDR, GbE and other Highspeed Bus.
  • Apply knowledge of PCB & PCBA manufacturing processes, industry, and quality
  • standards (including IPC), Signal Integrity, power distribution, EMC, and EMI layout requirements to PCB designs.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work with ME, EE, EMC/EMI, SW, Test Engineer, and Project Engineer.
  • Generate gerber and Drill files for pcb vendors, ODB, Placement file and assembly drawing for internal and external manufacturing.
  • Work closely with PCB vendors to resolve engineering query and support contract manufacturing.
  • Create, maintain, and refine symbol and footprint libraries.
  • Provide support for Operations, and Engineering Services.
  • Follow WRE (Wabtec Railway Electronics) ISO development process.

The salary rate for this role is currently $91000-129800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
