Who will you be working with?
As a Lead EHS Specialist, you will work closely with the ADS (locomotive components remanufacturing) plant leadership, the Global Lean organization, and the Business Core EHS team. This role collaborates daily with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and frontline teams to drive Lean transformation and ensure full Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) compliance across plant operations.
How will you make a difference?
This role leads EHS programs at the ADS plant, ensuring full compliance with local regulations and company EHS requirements while embedding a strong Lean and safety culture. Reporting directly to the ADS Operations Manager, the Specialist acts as a subject matter expert in identifying, eliminating, and mitigating EHS risks, while driving operational excellence through Lean Manufacturing principles.
What will your typical day look like?
- Coach, train, and mentor site employees on Lean Manufacturing fundamentals and principles
- Resolve operational problems using Lean methodologies (Kaizen, problem solving, waste elimination)
- Partner with the Lean Team to implement the Brilliant Factory concept at the facility
- Lead Lean improvement projects under the guidance of the Global Lean Leader
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Present metrics, project status, and improvement initiatives to internal teams
- Provide full EHS support to the ADS plant and lead the Risk Reduction Program
- Ensure full compliance with local EHS regulations, including: mandatory trainings and medical checks; EHS documentation and record keeping (safety instructions, company orders)
- Workplace risk assessments and EHS inspections
- PPE issuance tracking
- Support leaders in developing and updating labor safety instructions and employee safety training programs
- Collect and control data for timely environmental regulatory reporting
- Conduct EHS regulatory compliance self-assessments; identify gaps and lead corrective actions
- Establish and maintain EHS training programs aligned with Wabtec and regulatory requirements
- Conduct site inspections and audits; work with management and landlord to implement corrective actions
- Provide operational support after incidents, including investigations and corrective action implementation
- Promote a positive EHS culture through campaigns, awareness programs, and transparent reporting
- Develop, maintain, and report ADS EHS metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Develop and support implementation of environmental procedures (waste, chemicals, environmental aspects, ecological reporting)
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum 3 years of experience in EHS roles
- Legal authorization to work in Kazakhstan (no visa sponsorship)
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and EHS principles
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Ability to train employees at all organizational levels
- Ability to influence others and lead cross‑functional teams
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong project management capabilities
- Basic knowledge of QA/QC principles
