Who will you be working with?
Day to day, you’ll be leading a team of validation engineers and working closely with software development teams. You’ll partner regularly with management to align on priorities and timelines. You’ll also represent validation in cross‑functional reviews and leadership discussions.
How will you make a difference?
The Train Handling Validation Manager is responsible for overseeing the deliverables of the Locotrol validation team, including planning, scheduling, and leading validation and test engineers. This role entails managing multiple business-critical projects concurrently, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards. The Validation Manager is also accountable for mentoring and coaching team members to strengthen technical expertise and promote continuous professional development.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Information Technology is required
- A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in software, software validation principles and automation tools
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as software lead or manager driving strategy and execution
- Experience working with embedded technologies
- Proven track record of technical contribution
- Ability to influence team and technical decisions
- Strong communication skills including the ability to present to customers and Wabtec Executives in a clear and concise manner
- Expertise in engineering methodologies and tools
- Previous experience leading teams, either in a direct or matrixed environment
What will your typical day look like?
- Lead validation activities within the assigned product area, managing a team of individual contributors and/or contractors.
- Develop and execute both near-term and long-term validation strategies with a strong focus on improving test delivery cycles and product quality, including initiatives in process improvement, automation, and the adoption of AI-driven solutions.
- Demonstrate deep expertise in engineering methodologies and validation tools, driving best practices to ensure robust and reliable product delivery.
- Communicate technical concepts effectively through project execution, cross-functional collaboration, and contributions to overall product strategy.
- Evaluate validation tools and solution approaches to ensure timely execution and successful, on-schedule project delivery.
- Oversee resource planning, including hiring, performance management, and coaching, to drive exceptional team performance; lead a high-performing team of test engineers and own key quality metrics.
- Track, measure, and clearly communicate progress toward quality improvements to all stakeholders using well-defined metrics such as project burndown, test coverage, performance, and effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with product management and commercial teams to define scope, priorities, and execution plans.
- Challenge the status quo by upholding high standards for quality and customer satisfaction while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement.
- Represent the engineering organization in cross-functional forums, reviews, and leadership updates.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture aligned with Wabtec’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Behaviors.
