Who will you be working with? RMS Mors Smitt, a Wabtec Company is dedicated to the design, manufacture and distribution of high quality electrical engineering products. We design, manufacture and distribute electromechanical relays for the power distribution industry which generally comprise a circuit board controlling mechanical components. We export to 50+ countries around the world and sell locally. The operation fits into the light industrial sector and we mostly deal with small components, and have a mature supply base & mature product.

 

Where is the position located? This is an operational, hands-on role working as part of the Supply Chain team from Monday to Friday at our site office in Keysborough, Victoria. Monday - Thursday: 8.30 - 5.00pm, Friday: 8.30am - 3.00pm!

 

What will your typical day look like?

We are a small team, and you will also be required to undertake some additional tasks to support the supply chain function.

 

General Logistics Support

The focus of the role will be to purchase inventory and factory consumables for the plant and some purchasing to satisfy direct customer orders for distributed products. The purpose of this role is not to purchase stock, but to stop the factory from running out of stock.

 

We purchase both locally and overseas a wide variety of components including but not limited to: Engineered metal, Plastic mouldings, electronic components, circuit boards & sub-contract board loading, relays & surge protection devices, power transformers, solenoids, wire, cables, wire wound resistors, hardware, etc.

 

Core Functions

  • Expediting orders and following up order acknowledgements from suppliers

  • Work with sub-contract suppliers to coordinate the required consignment materials

  • Updating the ERP system with supplier details, in-transit status & goods receipting

  • Raising production jobs to manufacture finished goods to maintain minimum stock

  • Arranging and managing some outbound shipping requirements on a weekly or semi-regular basis, e.g. one customer with regular shipping requirements; periodic change of customer based on region or customer specific requirements.

 

Supporting Functions

  • Arranging and managing some inbound freight requirements

  • Inventory & Stocktake counts related to purchasing decisions

  • Managing some supplier quality issues related to purchasing decisions via departmental sign off process

     

What do we want to know about you?

  • Manufacturing experience is desirable along with an understanding of Bills of Material; inventory & purchasing

  • Previous Purchasing experience, in a factory environment

  • (Advantageous, however not essential) Relevant qualification in Procurement and Supply Chain

  • Process focused, with continuous improvement mindset

  • Previous experience using an ERP/ MRP system and good computer skills
