Senior Systems Engineer

The Wabtec Mining team delivers world class drive systems for heavy haul mining trucks ranging up to 400T with a developing focus on sustainability technology introduction.  In this role, the Senior Systems Engineer will lead cross functional teams through concept development and execution of key Mining projects. You’ll have the opportunity to interact directly with customers during product definition and will partner with other key stakeholders to ensure successful execution from development of requirements through the production launch.

How will you make a difference? 
In the role you will develop concepts and lead the execution of technical programs that meet a scope of requirements. The engineer is responsible for work that is less defined in scope and has the understanding and experience to execute business objectives. This role has the ability to influence the technical direction of short-term and some long-term business goals.

What will your typical day look like? 

• Leads the definition of the overall system requirements, recommends design approaches to meet/exceed customer expectations, and consistently demonstrates accountability. 
• Provides technical guidance throughout NPI process. Executes the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements. 
• Provides technical leadership/direction to guide cross functional team execution. 
• Influences technical direction of organization to align with long-term strategies and short-term project goals. 
• Documents technical data generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures. Prepares invention disclosures and patents as required to maintain competitive advantage.
• Provides timely communications cross functionally and to various levels of the organization effectively.
• Participates on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives and engineering issues. 
• Effectively facilitates collaboration between engineering, commercial supply chain, and customer.

Moderate Travel will be required in this job.

What do we want to know about you? 

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science 
• At least 10 years of experience in an engineering position within the Marine, Stationary, Mining, Locomotive, Oil & Gas or related heavy equipment industry 
• Engineering experience in the following areas:
  • Control & system validation for motor, alternator, and power electronic systems.
• Electromechanical system testing.
• System design and circuit analysis.
• Engineering Leadership
• Project management
• Mining or Heavy Industry application experience
• Fluent in English and Japanese

What about the physical demands of the job?

• Candidates may be conducting assembly and testing at a customer’s manufacturing site and/or proving grounds and periodically may work in a full-scale propulsion system test lab or support field testing at mines.  The below physical capabilities are essential:
• Able to climb multistory access stairs and/or ladders on large mining trucks to perform validation testing at mines.
• Oversee and troubleshooting as prototype and production trucks are built and commissioned in Customer factory/field settings. 
• Operate test instrumentation.
